As one of our more popular options, 10' x 10' storage units allow you to store an adequate number of items without wasting space. All of our units are temperature controlled to help prevent damage from condensation and keep your things looking their best whether you’re storing them for six months or six years. For more information, here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions regarding 10' x 10' storage units at The Lock Up.
A 10' x 10' storage unit measures 10 feet wide by 10 feet long. This gives you a total of 100 square feet of usable floor space. When you factor in the 8-foot ceilings, you’ll get a total cubic area of 800 feet. To make sure you fully understand the dimensions of your self storage unit, always double check with your location’s facility manager to confirm ceiling height. If you’re unsure how to visualize this storage unit, it’s roughly the size of half of a one-car garage.
You can fit approximately two rooms of furniture into a 10' x 10' storage unit, depending on the size and placement of your items. You should have plenty of room for a large or small sofa, chairs, a desk, file cabinets or bookshelves, and numerous medium or large moving boxes. You can fit the contents of apartments or homes that are close to 800 square feet into a 10' x 10' storage unit.
If you’re renovating your home, using short-term self storage is a great way to avoid creating unnecessary clutter and protect your items during construction. A 10' x 10' storage unit should suffice as temporary storage during a home renovation, as long as the renovation is isolated to one or two rooms. If you are going to be working on an entire four-bedroom family home, we recommend opting for a larger storage size such as our 10' x 25' units or 10' x 30' units.
Unfortunately, almost every car is going to be too large to fit inside a 10' x 10' self storage unit comfortably. The only exception may be a smart car, as the measurements are smaller than 10' x 10'. To avoid causing damage to your vehicle during storage, always measure it to get the exact dimensions. Our 10' x 20’ storage units or 10' x 25' units should provide enough room for most cars and some trucks. If you have any more questions regarding vehicle storage, feel free to reach out to The Lock Up Self Storage.
To get the most out of your 10' x 10' storage unit, we recommend utilizing the proper packing technique. First, take inventory of everything you’ll need to store and make sure you label your boxes. Try not to store loose items aside from large furniture or appliances. Get covers for furniture and put the largest items near the back—especially if you don’t need to access them. Then, begin to pack things from back to front based on your accessibility needs. If possible, bring in a shelving unit to help you maximize your vertical storage for boxes.
The number of boxes that can fit in a 10' x 10' storage unit really depends on the size of the boxes being used. If you were to pack your unit from floor to ceiling and leave absolutely no room for an aisle, you should be able to store about 140 medium moving boxes. However, we don’t recommend this as it makes it extremely difficult if you need to access anything. Instead, keeping a maximum amount of about 80 boxes and leaving room to walk is ideal.
